about

Soundtracks is the culmination of 2 year collaboration between Kismet, poet Joe Butler, Charlbury Primary School, St Egwin's Middle School, Evesham, Charlbury Morris and others. We originally secured funding in 2010 from the BBC Performing Arts Fund for Kismet and Joe to write the material as a celebration of a local project: the Redoubling of the Cotswold Line. We performed the work in Charlbury in October that year. Receiving much praise and promises of further funding we took it for a second outing down the line in 2011, involving members of the community in Evesham as well as the original cast.

Music was inspired by the sounds and shapes of railways, an epitaph of a navvy in St Mary's Churchyard in Charlbury: " Fame sounds the soldier's praise who dies in victory or in war, why should we not recall the fall of one who dies to serve us all, in works that lead to love and peace before whose power all wars shall cease, more dear to man and nearer God is death in peace than death in blood, then blessings on the railman's tomb and peace attend the soul of Coombs."

about

Kismet play an eclectic mix of European folk songs and tunes in sparkling new arrangements, together with their own ... more contemporary improvisations and compositions. With such a rich palette of sounds, textures and dynamics at their disposal, Kismet can take you from a wild Romanian dance to a haunting Celtic lullaby via a French cafe or a Japanese monastery. less
